International Women’s Day 2022 Spotlight: Amina ElShal & Natasha Lobo

International Women’s Day is all about celebrating the achievements, hard work, and daily dedication of women across the world, both professionally and personally. In the spirit of this global movement, we are dedicating the Incorta blog to our amazing women colleagues this week and highlighting 10 individuals in the U.S. and Egypt in a series of daily spotlights.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

Here’s a look at two remarkable women who play a major role in Incorta’s success:

What is the one idea you live by every day?
I’m cultivating prudence to make the best possible impact on every life I touch. Prudence is the ultimate superpower — simply doing or saying the right thing at the right time in the right way.

What is the one value you live by every day?
Authenticity. Being the same person at every occasion in life and staying true to myself.

What do you think the importance of promoting Women in Tech is?
Diversity feeds creativity and innovation. Encouraging young women to pursue their interests and careers in tech is important because when you bring women into senior roles, you demonstrate that others have an opportunity to succeed, too.

How does your family support you?
My family supports me to the max. They are very flexible, understand how work is important to me, and always encourage me to follow my dreams. My family also participates in the different household chores — even preparing meals. My kids also take care of their  own possessions and activities.

It’s not easy to balance between work, home, and self care — but by trying to follow the below steps, sometimes balance happens:
  • Set priorities in the right order and avoid nonessential stuff
  • Delegate and focus on the most important things
  • Plan and do things in advance
  • Forget perfection
  • Make compromises
What is one skill or attribute you feel is important for an effective leader to have?
Lead by example. The best way to build credibility and gain the respect of others is to set the right examples.

What is the one idea you live by every day?
Knowing is better than wondering, waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure beats not trying.

If you were given the chance to go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?
Be the force for the change that you want to see in the world. Your ideas can make a big difference and people want to hear them.

What is one skill or attribute you feel is important for an effective leader to have?
An effective leader respects the expertise of the people whom she leads. She seeks the insight and opinions of experienced professionals on her team before making important decisions.

What do you think the importance of promoting Women in Tech is?
The Tech industry is rapidly changing how human beings have lived for centuries. It is, thus, important for us to drive innovation for good and to keep pushing boundaries. We must not allow bias to hinder our ability to make the best decisions. We need the brightest technologists in this industry, irrespective of gender, race, or religion. Women form an essential part of our workforce and add value to this industry by contributing their unique capabilities and perspectives. However, a lot of women take the decision to leave the workforce when it becomes difficult to balance the demands of work and a growing family. We need to promote Women in Tech and find ways to support women better so that they can continue to make wonderful contributions to this industry.

What do you think is the importance of promoting female leadership?
Every organization benefits from being led by people who have a wealth of experience, great team-building skills, and phenomenal decision-making abilities. Tenured women in our industry make great leaders because they possess these attributes. Promoting equal opportunity ensures that we select the best leaders to drive an organization toward success. Although many women may aspire to reach executive levels, not all of them receive the support that they need to achieve their full potential. To ensure that we groom the best leaders for this industry, it is important for us to encourage aspiring female leaders to achieve their goals.
